Why does my son have a cough after his lung lobectomy?

The only thing that really bothers him is the cough he now has. The nurses and doctors have all said it can be a side affect after surgery. He is having his 6 months check up CT scan next week. As a family we are all on pins. He had an X-ray about 7 weeks ago because of the cough and that came back clear.

What causes a person to cough in response to a stimulus?

Apparently coughing can be caused by microscopic nerve damage to the airways and becomes a kind of reflex, so you cough in response to any small stimulus. I have now been given codeine-containing meds to try to stop the reflex coughing, and also told to see a speech therapist who can apparently train you to avoid coughing.

What to do for cough after lung lobectomy?

The hernia is due to the coughing and reflux. They have prescribed him some tablets for the reflux and put him on gaviscon. No further operations required unless it bothers him. He is happy with that. I hope that helps. But I’d say if you are worried about yourself or somebody else go and get checked out.
