- Category 1 | Completing student or recent graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited medical assisting program.
- Category 2 | Nonrecent graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited medical assisting program.
- Category 3 | CMA (AAMA) recertificant.

A. The only individuals eligible to take the CMA (AAMA) Certification Examination and become CMAs (AAMA) are graduates of CAAHEP or ABHES accredited medical assisting programs.

How much does the CMA (AAMA) Certification Exam cost? The cost to sit for the CMA (AAMA) Certification Exam is $250 for nonmembers and $125 for AAMA members.

What is a passing score on the AAMA exam?
430
The minimum passing score (MPS) is 430. Thus, you will need to obtain a score of 430 or more to pass the examination. The AAMA Certifying Board may change this minimum required proficiency level as deemed appropriate.What are the benefits of being a member of the AAMA?

What do you need to be a member of AHIMA?
To be eligible, a student cannot previously have been a member or hold an AHIMA credential/registered for an exam, and must be currently enrolled in a formal certificate or degree-granting program relevant to AHIMA’s purpose (including, but not limited to, CAHIIM-accredited or PCAP/ACCP-approved coding programs).
What do I need to renew my Aama certificate?
Note: The documentation listed above is required if AAMA contacts you to request verification of CEUs listed on your renewal form. Any certificate, including a Certificate of Completion, will be accepted.
How many Aama recertification points do I Need?
Up to 30 of the required 60 recertification points used to recertify can be from non-AAMA sources. As long as a program meets the criteria listed, it would count for non-AAMA CEUs.
